Press Release:

New mirrorless camera incorporates unique new i-Function lens to give beginner and expert photographers seamless control and creativity

LONDON, UK – September 14, 2010 - Samsung Electronics (UK) Ltd today announces the launch of the unique Samsung NX100 – an innovative mirrorless camera equipped with the world’s first i-Function lens, putting the perfect picture at the fingertips of all photographers through a completely new way of controlling your camera.

The NX100 is set to dominate the new mirrorless camera category. This innovative new camera benefits from Samsung’s expertise across multiple areas of technology, meaning that all its key components are 100% produced by Samsung. This unique process has been combined with Samsung’s detailed and extensive program of consumer research, which provided valuable insights to incorporate into the NX100. The NX100 is also complemented by an extensive line up of lenses and accessories, giving photographers a full package of options with which to explore their creativity.

The launch of the NX100 follows the success of the NX10, Samsung’s first mirrorless camera and the first in the world to feature an APS-C size sensor, which has already changed the way millions of photographers across the globe take pictures, and raised the bar for the industry as a whole. The NX100 shares the industry leading technology of the NX10, such as an APS-C size sensor for quality images and a 3-inch AMOLED screen for clear and easy viewing. However, Samsung takes the mirrorless camera to the next level with the NX100, by incorporating the innovations of the NX10 and improving other areas of the camera’s performance and design. The body of the camera is slim, sleek and stylish, and it also features the intuitive i-Function lens which allows users to control their camera through the lens for the first time. The NX100 also boasts one of the fastest AF on the market today, which ensures that users never miss a moment, as well as an ISO that is raised to a maximum of 6400 for action shots.

The NX100’s shutter button and curved body have been inspired to an attractive natural shape. The lightweight, compact and modern design makes the camera extremely portable, allowing users with a creative flair to carry the NX100 with them anywhere and for any occasion. The NX100 is more than just a camera; it is both a creative tool and an artistic object that makes a bold style statement everywhere it goes.

Mr. SangJin Park, President of Samsung Digital Imaging Division, Samsung Electronics, commented: “Our aim is to lead the mirrorless camera market in the same way we do the DualView category, and the new NX100 is the embodiment of that goal. Samsung has brought together this high quality of imaging technology with intuitive consumer insights based on our in-depth consumer research, which is why we believe that, alongside the NX10, the NX100 will enhance our position in this growing field. Our unique and pioneering i-Function Lens stands out from the competition as an example of our unparalleled innovation which will appeal to every photographer.”

While conventional lenses are passive in controlling camera settings, the unique i-Function Lens is a proactive lens that communicates with the camera body. It delivers total image control with fast manual settings to ensure quick and easy image capture, and also provides customized settings optimized for the lens being used. The lens incorporates an i-Function button which allows users to scroll through manual settings, and a focus ring which is used to easily change parameters for each setting. Users can toggle between shutter speed, aperture, EV, WB, and ISO quickly and easily by simply using the i-Function button and ring on the lens, meaning easier and quicker configuration while shooting.

The NX100 also has a lens priority mode which makes switching between lenses easier than ever. Firstly, each lens is clearly marked with icons that illustrate their main use to help users quickly learn which lens they need to select for any given scene. The lens priority mode provides scene options optimized for the lens being used – for example when a landscape lens is attached the camera will immediately display the landscape mode. Also, when users change to a specialized lens, the camera would recognize the lens type and automatically configure the settings that would best match with the attached lens. Note this latter feature is supported fully on future specialised Samsung lenses.

The NX100’s innovations aren’t confined to the lens – the camera also provides a very creative feature called ‘Smart Filter’. In playback mode, users can apply seven different effects to the picture, such as the vignette, soft focus, fish-eye or miniature effects. The ‘Smart Filter’ provides not just high quality images, but also features that are fun to use.

The fun doesn't stop with still images. The NX100 supports HD movie recording at 720P, to capture the finest details of your memories.  It also contains a ‘Sound Picture’ mode that can record audio whilst a photo is taken. To ensure each image is perfect quality, even when lenses are being changed regularly, the NX100 also features a supersonic dust reduction feature to remove any foreign particles from the lens before shooting.

At launch the NX100 will be equipped with a range of innovative lenses and accessories including a compact zoom 20-50mm lens, a small and light 20mm wide angle Pancake lens (to be introduced shortly after launch). Two additional specialized lenses will be made available in the first half of 2011 – a 60mm Macro lens and 18-200mm Super Zoom lens. To expand the lens line-up even further, three more lenses will be introduced by the second half of 2011. The NX system will be further enhanced with more accessories, including an Electronic Viewfinder, Flash and GPS tracker to capture your exact geographical location.

Sony SLT-A55

Sony has unveiled the SLT A55 and SLT A33, the first pair of cameras to incorporate the company's translucent mirror design. The Single Lens Translucent (SLT) cameras offer live view with full-time fast phase-detection AF whether in stills or movie shooting. This is achieved by having a fixed, semi-transparent mirror that redirects a small amount of light onto the AF sensor while allowing the rest through onto the main imaging sensor. The A55 is built around a 16.2MP sensor while the A33 features a 14.2MP unit. Both feature 3.0" articulated LCDs, full HD video recording and ISO sensitivity up to 12,800, while the A55 also features built-in GPS. Priced at $749 and $649 respectively, the A55 will be available from October, while the A33 will hit the markets earlier, in September.

Light, compact a55 and a33: up to 10fps shooting with high-speed AF tracking and Full HD movie

a55 (SLT-A55V) (16.2 megapixels) and a33 (SLT-A33) (14.2 megapixels)Ultra-quick shooting up to 10fps with fast, precision phase detection AFFirst ever Quick AF HD Movie with smooth, continuous autofocus during video shootingEnhanced Quick AF Live View and 7.5 cm (3") free-angle LCD, plus Tru-Finder (Electronic Viewfinder) with 100% coverageAdvanced imaging functions including 3D Sweep Panorama, Auto HDR and multi-frame noise reduction

The a (pronounced Alpha) family of interchangeable lens cameras from Sony grows with the compact, ultra-responsive new a55 and a33.

Sony’s first-ever digital cameras to employ Translucent Mirror Technology showcase an innovative optical system that opens up dramatic new shooting possibilities. In contrast with conventional DSLR cameras, Translucent Mirror Technology uses a fixed, translucent mirror that ‘splits’ the optical pathway between the main image sensor and a separate phase-detection autofocus sensor.

High-resolution live image preview with rapid, accurate phase detection autofocus is thus available at all times – either via the angle-adjustable 7.5cm (3”) LCD or precision Tru-Finder (electronic viewfinder). This also ensures that even moving objects stay in sharp focus at all times, whether you’re shooting Full HD video or stills.

Translucent Mirror Technology overcomes other traditional limitations of DSLR models, with its simplified mechanical design shrinking camera size and complexity. This makes the a55 and a33 a compelling choice for casual photographers who want to capture spontaneous family moments and travel scenes with less to carry.

Full-resolution shooting at up to 10fps with precise AF tracking
Ground-breaking Translucent Mirror Technology allows high-speed shooting with the a55 at up to 10fps (a33: 7fps) in Continuous Priority AE mode. This represents the world’s fastest burst continuous AF shooting performance of any interchangeable lens camera with an APS-C size sensor.

A newly developed 15-point phase-detection autofocus system assures rapid, accurate AF tracking, keeping even moving subjects in sharp focus during continuous shooting. This enables the a55 and a33 to capture split-second action or fleeting nuances of expression with portrait subjects.

World’s first Quick AF Full HD movie shooting
The large sensor size Exmor™ APS HD CMOS Sensor inside both cameras lets photographers capture stunning, cinematic HD video footage with beautiful background defocus (bokeh) effects.

Thea55 and a33 also mark the debut of Quick AF Full HD movie shooting. Translucent Mirror Technology enables AVCHD 1080i video shooting with smooth, precise phase detection AF tracking of moving subjects. Real-time video image preview is now possible via the viewfinder – in contrast with DSLR cameras where the raised mirror prevents light from reaching the optical viewfinder during video shooting.

Effortless composition and image viewing
Thea55 and a33 enable exciting new possibilities for framing and viewing highest-quality video and still images. Already prized by step-up DSLR users and enthusiasts alike, Sony’s Quick AF Live View system is now more effective than ever. High-resolution live image preview is teamed with uncompromised phase detection AF performance – even with rapidly-moving subjects.

Tilting and swivelling freely (to maximum 270 degrees) for comfortable framing at any shooting angle, the bright 7.5 cm (3.0") (16:9) Xtra Fine LCD offers superb detail and contrast.

There’s also a precision electronic viewfinder with 1.15 million dot resolution that delivers a clear, bright image with 100% frame coverage. Adjustments to exposure, depth of field and colour can be previewed instantly, either in the viewfinder or on the LCD. Effortless composition is aided further by switchable grid line in the finder and LCD screen, plus a new digital levelling gauge.

Enriched creative possibilities
Thea55 and a33 are compatible with the full range of over 30 A-mount interchangeable lenses and offer SteadyShot INSIDE. This in-body image stabilisation system provides up to 4 exposure steps of anti-shake correction when shooting handheld.

Both cameras also feature 3D Sweep Panorama, allowing photographers to capture detail-packed extra-wide panoramas with a huge field of view. 3D panoramas can be enjoyed on any compatible 3D HD television. The SLT-A55 is also the first a camera by Sony with integrated GPS, allowing automatic geo-tagging of images and video clips.

The new-generation Exmor™ APS HD CMOS Sensor inside both cameras supports a sophisticated range of digital image compositing and processing functions. This gives even greater artistic possibilities to beginners and photo enthusiasts alike.

Auto HDR is now refined further compared with previous-generation a models. Data from a burst of three frames at bracketed exposure values is automatically combined, creating a single image with extended highlight and shadow detail Multi-frame Noise Reduction ‘stacks’ a high-speed burst of six frames, creating a single low-noise exposure that boosts effective sensitivity as high as ISO 25600.

The new cameras accept both Memory Stick PRO Duo™ (including Memory Stick PRO-HG Duo™) and SD (including both SDHC and SDXC formats) media (all sold separately).  Memory Stick PRO-HG Duo HX 30MB per second transfer rate offers the best performance during cameras' continuous shooting mode or when transferring the data to another media.

The new a55 and a33 Single Lens Translucent mirror cameras by Sony are available from September 2010.

Fujifilm FinePix F300EXR

Fujifilm has unveiled the FinePix F300EXR which debuts a new Hybrid autofocus system that the company claims is as fast as that on DSLRs. The camera automatically chooses between using the contrast-detection AF method used in compact cameras and the phase-detection method usually used in DSLRs. In addition the F300 offers a 15x optical zoom lens starting at a wide 24mm, a 1/2" 12MP Super CCD EXR sensor and a 460k 3.0" LCD. The camera's image stabilization system has also been tweaked, adding a 'Gyro' sensor to detect a wider range of camera movements that can contribute to shaky images. Other features include manual exposure modes, 360 degrees Motion Panorama and a Super Intelligent flash that attempts to balance flash illumination across the foreground and background.

Press Release: July 21, 2010: Following in the footsteps of award-winning ‘F’ series models, the F200EXR, F70EXR and F80EXR, Fujifilm is pleased to announce a new top-end 15x zoom model, the F300EXR. Today’s discerning photographers are looking for a camera with a high zoom range, yet compact and pocketable, with no compromises on picture quality.  The FinePix F300EXR delivers on all those counts, and is destined to be the star performer in this year’s intense competition for the best ‘superzoom’ compact. The F300EXR’s features at a glance: 12 megapixel, ½ " Super CCD EXR second generation sensorFull EXR modes, with EXR auto15x Fujinon lens, 24mm – 360 mm equivalentNew Hybrid Auto-Focus System (Contrast AF and Phase Detection AF)New accurate zoom control with low noiseFull HD Photo and 720p HD Video3.0”, high contrast (1:1200), 460k dot LCD with Wide View FilterCCD Shift Image Stabilisation System using new Gyro SensorSuper Intelligent FlashCompact size, only 103.5 (w), 59.2 (h) and 32.55 (w)mmErgonomic grip, with slanted mode dialPhotobook Assist via Star Rating SystemP/A/S/M Exposure ControlFace Detection, Face Recognition, Pro Focus ModeMotion Panorama 360°

Second generation EXR Sensor technology NEW! Hybrid Auto Focus System NEW!
One of the disadvantages of longer zoom compacts is relatively slow auto focusing. Typical compacts rely on Contrast Detection, which works by fixing the focus by searching for contrast differentials.  Some expensive cameras, including many DSLRs, use two focusing systems in tandem to improve the time taken to auto focus. Phase Detection AF works by dividing the incoming light into pairs of images and calculating the phase difference to find if the object is in front focus or back focus position. Contrast AF is generally better in low-lit scenes, while Phase Detection AF is extremely responsive in good light.  Having both systems on one camera is perfect. The FinePix F300EXR uses both Contrast AF and Phase Detection AF to offer auto focus speeds as good as, or sometimes better than expensive DSLRs.  To achieve the incredible AF speed of 0.158*1 seconds, Fujifilm engineers placed pairs of phase detection sensors on the EXR sensor, which work exactly like external sensors on DSLRs.  The FinePix F300EXR automatically selects the optimum focus system, by measuring the amount of light or contrast in the scene. The benefit for the photographer is immediate and obvious: an almost instantaneous capture of the subject in the viewfinder, with no missed shots or subjects half out-of-frame.

Super CCD EXR - The Quality Edge
Introduced last year with the FinePix F200EXR, this radical new approach to sensor technology has been met with rave reviews and numerous awards from international industry organisations such as EISA and TIPA. The FinePix F300EXR sports the latest 12 megapixel version of the EXR sensor, offering even higher resolution than its predecessor whilst still offering class-leading dynamic range and low noise/high sensitivity options. Modelled on the human eye, the EXR sensor's unique design means that the user can switch the behaviour of the sensor according to the scene to the photographed. When the light is strong and even, the camera can be switched to HR (High Resolution) mode to ensure every small detail is recorded. When light is strong but contrasty, the sensor can switch to DR (Wide Dynamic Range) mode to get the optimal balance between highlight and shadows. Lastly, in low light the sensor will switch to SN (High Sensitivity and Low Noise) mode, to ensure clean noise-free pictures even in the darkest conditions.

EXR Automatic or Manual operation – You decide
For the ultimate in 'point and shoot' simplicity with perfectly optimised results whatever, whenever and wherever you're shooting, EXR Auto mode takes the guesswork out of setting the camera by doing everything for you. With six pre-set scene modes covering the most popular subjects; Landscape, Portrait, Macro, Night, Night Portrait, and Backlit Portrait, EXR Auto automatically detects the scene and not only optimises the focus, exposure and white balance but chooses the optimum EXR mode, too. If you prefer the hands-on approach, all three sensor modes can be selected manually for true creative freedom and total control. EXR was developed by Fujifilm to maximise quality in camera designs where larger sensors simply cannot be used, making it perfect for a long zoom compact, delivering extraordinary results even in the most challenging conditions. Fujinon 15x Optical Zoom Lens

Super Wide to Super Telephoto (24-360mm*2)
Teams of Fujifilm sensor and lens engineers worked closely together to develop a lens/sensor combination which works perfectly together.  The toughest assignment was to produce the high quality 15x lens, which offers an incredible 24mm – 360mm focal length, while still optimising quality via the new EXR sensor.  From sweeping landscapes, interiors and large group shots to distant sports or wildlife action, the FinePix F300EXR opens up a world of photographic possibilities that you can carry with you wherever you go.

The secret of the Slim design
Such high zoom ratios have hitherto only been possible in larger ‘bridge’ cameras, but Fujinon engineers have developed a clever ‘double sliding’ lens mechanism, which means that 2 lens elements neatly fold away from the path of the retracting lens, giving a remarkably neat, compact look, and a camera depth of 32.6 mm, which is similar to a number of lesser zoom models on the market. Professional Optics
Long zoom compacts depend heavily on the quality of the optics, so no expense has been spared to provide the FinePix F300EXR with the sharpest, clearest Fujinon 15x zoom lens. With a Super Electronic Beam Coating (EBC), that keeps ghosting and flare to a minimum, you are ensured optimal picture quality. The Fujinon brand name guarantees optical quality across the entire zoom range that you'll see from the first picture you take. Fujinon lenses are acclaimed by photographers, broadcasters (Fujinon are the world's leading manufacturer of television camera lenses) and industrial users across the globe.

Advanced technology in a slim shell
Gyro Sensor to improve Image Stabilisation on both movies and stills NEW!
To achieve the sharpest possible pictures, even at the longest telephoto range, Fujifilm engineers have developed a new gyro sensor to radically improve the performance of the CCD-shift image stabilisation.  Previously, the stabilisation worked very effectively to control high frequency narrow-range vibration, but less well with slower, broader-sweep movement.  The new sensor in the FinePix F300EXR works very well with both, controlling all forms of handshake movement to produce sharp, crisp, images at the touch of a button.  Increasing the ISO to freeze the action is no longer as necessary, meaning beautifully sharp low-light pictures can be achieved at ISO 400, rather than 800 or 1600 ISO.

Perfect Handling
Despite its pocket-friendly size, the FinePix F300EXR sits nicely in the hand for easy controlled shooting.  The sculpted grip fits the fingers perfectly, while the slanted mode dial gives easy access to all the important camera controls.  The finish to the black, all-metal chassis, is solid and finely crafted, and offers protection from minor knocks or abrasions.  At only 103.5mm wide, 59.2mm high and 32.5mm deep, the camera is remarkably compact for a 15x zoom lens.

3.0” High Contast, High Resolution LCD screen
Of considerable benefit in bright sunlight, the 3.0” high contrast (1:1200 ratio), wide-view LCD screen allows you to tilt the camera at various angles and still see the picture on the screen. Additionally, with a new enhanced 460K dot resolution NEW!, this LCD screen will really bring out the detail and colour in your photos and allow you to see every last blade of grass.

360° Motion Panorama for the Perfect All-Round Shot NEW!
Recently popularised on cameras employing a ‘Backside Illuminated’ CMOS sensor, ‘sweep’ or ‘motion panorama’ shots have really become popular with photographers wanting to create beautiful panoramic landscape shots.  New to the second generation EXR sensor is a and extends the sweep range from 270° to 360° (shots can also be taken vertically).  Combining this with high quality printing on Fuji Frontiers or inkjets, astounding scenes can be taken, showing fine detail, low noise and high resolution.

Super Intelligent Flash
The FinePix F300EXR is fitted with a class-leading flash control system that efficiently controls the flash power to produce beautifully balanced flash illumination across the foreground and background, even in macro mode. Gone are the ugly washed out shots where the subject is blasted with light and the background dark and under exposed. With the improved gyro stabilisation system, lower ISO settings can be used, meaning that slower shutter speeds give more balanced night portrait shoots, with smooth gradation and lower noise.

Improved Pro Focus Mode
One of the ways to distinguish DSLR photography from compact camera photography has been the use of a wide aperture to produce a narrow depth of field separating the main subject from a soft background. Introduced on the F200EXR, Pro Focus Mode has proved very popular with photographers. Through complex digital imaging technology, several exposures are combined to create a crisp shot of the subject against a defocused background and foreground. Ideal for portraiture, nature photography or any subject that needs 'lifting' from its background, the FinePix F300EXR Pro Focus Mode provides satisfying professional results at the touch of a button.  Good results are now even simpler to achieve as Pro Focus Mode has been been combined with Face Detection and Face Recognition.

Designed for the Photographer
Similar to other high-end FinePix models, the FinePix F300EXR offers five different film 'modes' to allow the photographer full creative expression to explore a variety of pre-set colour and contrast modes designed around Fujifilm's most famous film emulsions. The modes are:

Velvia/Vivid (for dramatic full saturation colour)PROVIA/Standard (for classic 'neutral' photography)ASTIA/Soft (for gentle, low contrast portraiture and soft, fine, smooth tonality)Sepia (for antique, warms tones) Black & White (for dramatic monotones)The FinePix F300EXR offers Program Mode, Aperture-Priority Mode, Shutter-Priority  Mode and Manual modes to give the photographer creative control for those difficult or challenging subjects. Auto Release for photos of babies and children
We’ve all tried to take a photo of kids who will just not sit still. A clever new mode on the F300EXR will not fire the camera until the subject looks straight at the lens. Using Face Detection technology, the camera can ‘recognise’ a front-on face and will quickly take the shot before attention is distracted.  It takes all the hard work out of taking pictures of children and is remarkably successful at capturing sharp, high quality shots with minimal fuss.

High Definition movies and stills
The FinePix F300EXR features a high resolution HD movie mode (720p) with sound, and the camera's micro HDMI*3 output allows you to easily display ultra clear high definition photographs and movies on high definition televisions.

Press Release:

A new GXR camera unit featuring a GR Lens and an APS-C size CMOS sensor
Exhibited at photokina 2010

Tokyo, Japan, September 21, 2010 —Ricoh Co., Ltd. (president and CEO: Shiro Kondo) today announced the development and release of GR LENS A12 28 mm F2.5, the fourth camera unit in the GXR interchangeable unit system. This product is being announced and exhibited at the photokina 2010 exhibition held in Cologne, Germany, beginning September 21, 2010.

Introduced in December 2009, the GXR is a revolutionary new interchangeable unit camera system in which lenses can be changed by mounting camera units that integrate lens, image sensor, and image processing engine into a single unit. In addition, to fully utilize this system's unique ability to accommodate interchangeable units other than camera units, Ricoh is also investigating possibilities for development of a variety of other devices.

The new GR LENS A12 28 mm F2.5 brings together a newly developed 28 mm wide-angle fixed focal length GR Lens, an APS-C size CMOS sensor, and the proven GR Engine III image processing engine to create a unit with high flexibility, high image quality, high-speed shooting ability, and high power of expression.

Main features of GR LENS A12 28 mm F2.5

Newly developed GR Lens and APS-C size CMOS sensor for strong resolution and imaging power

The new 28 mm equivalent GR Lens has a 6-group, 9-element configuration. Incorporating two aspherical lenses, one special low-dispersion lens, and multiple high-refraction-ratio lenses, this extravagant lens configuration achieves strong resolution and imaging power to the edge of the frame. The lens thoroughly corrects for various types of aberrations while at the same time utilizing a floating lens structure to suppress performance changes caused by focusing. The result at all shooting distances is high image quality worthy of the GR Lens name.*1
A 23.6 mm × 15.7 mm (APS-C size) CMOS sensor is used. The combination of this sensor with the GR ENGINE III image processing engine enables the camera unit to shoot high-quality images with smooth tone gradations as well as high definition and low noise. The use of a configuration of nine rounded aperture blades enables the photographer to enjoy beautiful bokeh as well as precise aperture settings.

Rapid shooting capabilities help capture fleeting shutter chances

Focusing speed has been accelerated through the addition of the new drive mode and the use of a high-speed CMOS sensor. The Pre-AF function also accelerates focusing speed by adjusting the focus to match subject movement. The full press snap function shoots at a preset distance for a one-push full-press of the shutter-release button.

High usability and quality feel

The manual focus ring is available for precise focus adjustments. High-speed adjustment is also an option. The manual focus ring can even be used to seamlessly fine tune the focus after automatic focusing. The target position can be magnified on the screen during shooting, and it can also be moved using the direction keys. Select from 2x, 4x, and 8x magnification ratios for convenient and precise focus checking. The two options of normal and pinpoint can be selected for the AF area size used in spot AF. For the exterior, we utilized die cast magnesium, which has a strong track record in the GR series, and we covered the surface with a corrosion-resistant "pear-skin" coating. The end result is a body with durability, light weight, and a superior feel in hand. GXR series power of expression takes full advantage of GR Lens capabilities

Multi-pattern auto white balance makes it possible to recreate natural as-seen colors even in people-photography scenes that were difficult to shoot with past auto white balance functions, such as scenes with both shadow and sunlight and scenes mixing flash and natural light (or fluorescent light, etc.).ISO3200 facilitates shooting in low light conditions. The noise reduction level can be specified as Off, Weak, Strong, Max, or Auto. By specifying Max, it is possible to do sophisticated variance-estimation type noise reduction processing in which the sensor image data's noise distribution is analyzed and the optimum processing is done for each region. The automatic exposure modes include program shift mode, shutter speed priority mode, and aperture priority mode. Picture settings can be customized with nine setting levels for easy creation of a diverse range of images. Diverse functions of the GXR series

An electronic level utilizing an acceleration sensor.Three grid guides useful for framing images while shooting. An image flag function to enable the quick display of specific images from among those in the camera. Up to 20 images can be flagged. The DIRECT screen enabling current shooting settings to be displayed and changed. Settings can be easily checked at a glance. It is possible to shoot 1280 × 720 pixel HD movies.*2

*1To be given the “GR Lens” name by Ricoh, a lens must exceed a specified level of overall lens performance, with particular attention being given to MTF values, distortion, and color aberration.
*2 Note: When shooting movies of 1280×720 size, the use of an SD/SDHC memory card with an SD speed class of Class 6 or higher is recommended.

Canon PowerShot S95

Canon has launched the PowerShot S95 premium compact as successor to the S90. The latest model includes an upgraded sensor capable of 720p HD video recording and the company's 'Hybrid IS' system that compensates for more types of movement. It also adds multi-aspect ratio shooting and SDXC card compatibility. Other than these features it inherits a lightly tweaked version of the S90's basic body design including the control ring, 28-105mm F2.0-4.9 stabilized lens and 3.0" LCD.

Jump to:

London, UK, 19th August 2010 – Canon today unveils the latest model in its successful PowerShot S-series with the launch of the new PowerShot S95 – an advanced, compact digital camera for photographers looking for outstanding low light performance and manual control in a pocket-sized body. Succeeding the highly-acclaimed PowerShot S90, the new model offers improved handling, greater levels of manual control, HD movie capabilities, the HS System and Hybrid IS – providing a powerful feature set capable of superb image quality in all shooting conditions.

Building on the S-series’ core principle of offering advanced manual control and low light performance in a compact body, the new PowerShot S95 takes the range to new heights, with features designed for users who demand maximum control and premium image quality in all conditions. The popular lens Control Ring, introduced with the PowerShot S90, has been improved with greater levels of flexibility, while a bright, f/2.0 lens and Canon’s HS System provide an even more powerful basis for low light and creative photography. The PowerShot S95 is also the first-ever Canon compact to feature Hybrid IS technology, providing improved image stabilization for macro photography.

Improving on both the size and handling of its predecessor, the PowerShot S95 features an even slimmer body at just 29.5 mm thick*1, an improved multi-control dial and the same external coating used on the EOS 7D to improve slip-resistance and grip. Also designed to fit seamlessly into a photographer’s existing workflow, the camera offers RAW format shooting and support for Canon’s Digital Photo Professional (DPP) software.

Shoot in darker situations with f/2.0 aperture and the HS System
The PowerShot S95 includes Canon’s HS System – a combination of a high-sensitivity 10.0 Megapixel CCD sensor and powerful DIGIC 4 processing, which provides exceptional low light performance even better than that of its predecessor. The HS System enables the camera to support a maximum ISO of 3200 at full resolution and works to reduce the occurrence of noise at all ISO speeds for high quality images. Users can also set their own parameters in Auto ISO mode, with the ability to limit the maximum ISO speed they want to employ during shooting.

Using Low Light mode, the camera can also achieve an extended ISO range from ISO 320 to ISO 12800, capturing images at 2.5MP resolution. Manual control of ISO settings and white balance in Low Light mode also provide greater control over shots taken in darker conditions, allowing users to accurately capture the ambience of a dimly-lit environment exactly as they see it. Low Light mode also enables higher speed shooting, capturing up to 3.9 shots per second so a moment is never missed.

As well as providing the ability to shoot without the flash and still achieve correctly-exposed shots, the PowerShot S95’s high-sensitivity sensor offers a greater dynamic range compared to conventional sensor types. Tonal range representation is improved as a result, allowing natural looking pictures to be captured in all conditions. A bright, f/2.0 genuine Canon lens perfectly complements the HS System, allowing more light into the camera and providing greater ability to use faster shutter speeds and freeze the motion of moving subjects.

Genuine Canon lens with Hybrid IS
The PowerShot S95’s 28mm wide-angle lens features 3.8x optical zoom, allowing users to get closer to distant subjects during shooting. The camera benefits from Canon’s extensive heritage in lens design, having been developed using the same processes and high-quality standards employed to manufacture Canon’s EF lenses, ensuring sharp, high resolution images with every shot.

Canon’s acclaimed optical Image Stabilizer (IS) counteracts camera shake – reducing blur and enabling users to capture shots in darker conditions and shoot at a shutter speed approximately 4-stops slower than would otherwise be necessary to achieve a blur-free shot. Hybrid IS also prevents image blur during close-up shooting, counteracting angular and shift shake that becomes more pronounced during macro photography.

Unparalleled control
The PowerShot S95’s unique and enhanced lens Control Ring enables the adjustment of various shooting settings such as ISO (in 1/3 stop increments), shutter speed, aperture, focus and exposure compensation – providing a satisfying and tactile experience. Offering even higher levels of customisation, the PowerShot S95 features a custom setting that allows the user to pre-set the function of both the lens Control Ring and the rear Multi-Control Dial in various shooting modes. A dedicated shortcut button can also be configured to provide instant access to pre-selected functions, offering the photographer easy access to settings during shooting.

To track subjects that are in motion, or to help achieve a creative composition, a new Tracking AF mode offers the ability to select objects from the centre of the frame and track them if they move, or if the frame is recomposed.

The handling of the Multi-Control Dial has also been redesigned following feedback from owners of the preceding model. The dial now features a more pronounced ‘click’ mechanism, preventing any unintentional changes to settings. Furthermore, the positioning of the ‘Ring Func.’ and ‘On/Off’ buttons has been revised, providing greater all-round operation in everyday use.

A 7.5 cm (3.0”) 461k-dot PureColor II G LCD screen features a tempered glass outer layer, offering enhanced strength, high contrast and a wide viewing angle that offers greater visibility even when shooting in bright conditions. A new RGB histogram available in playback also allows photographers to instantly check the exposure of a shot in detail.

HD movies with stereo sound

The PowerShot S95 features 720p HD 24fps movie recording with stereo sound. The inclusion of Miniature Effect in movies also adds a completely new dimension to video footage – shooting at a slower frame rate for dramatic and compelling time-lapse-style videos which appear of model scale. An integrated HDMI port with CEC compatibility makes it simple for video and stills to be viewed and controlled directly using a compatible HDTV and remote control.

Capture scenes as you see them
A High Dynamic Range shooting mode allows the capture of high contrast scenes closer to how they appear to the human eye. Exceeding the limitations of conventional cameras, the PowerShot S95 takes three different exposures of the same scene*2 before analysing and combining shots to create a single image in-camera. The result is an image that captures highlight and shadow detail closer to how the photographer sees it.

Instant, creative results

The PowerShot S95 includes a range of shooting modes to match the desired level of control or the photographer’s skill. In addition to the flexibility of Full Manual control and semi-automatic Aperture priority (Av), Shutter priority (Tv) and Programme AE modes, the PowerShot S95 also features Smart Auto for those who simply want to capture great shots instantly.

Scene Detection Technology within Smart Auto helps to provide the best results in all conditions, intelligently detecting the scene and selecting the optimum settings from 28 variables. Hints & Tips messages within the UI also make everyday operation as simple as possible, intelligently guiding users through the camera’s menu and offering a short explanation of each feature before it is selected.

Smart Flash Exposure controls flash levels according to shooting conditions, providing the right amount of flash to ensure perfectly exposed shots in all situations, from darker rooms to bright sunlight. The PowerShot S95 also offers Multi-Aspect shooting, with 3:2, 4:3, 1:1, 16:9 and 4:5 formats supported. Allowing photographers to shoot according to their subject or the intended use of the image, Multi-Aspect shooting provides the ability to choose which composition and result they want to capture as the image is taken, without the need for post-processing.

Easy, wireless content transfers are supported by Eye-Fi connected functions, allowing remote uploads to image sharing websites such as CANON iMAGE GATEWAY. The camera features a dedicated Eye-Fi section within the User Interface, and disables the auto power-down function when the Eye-Fi card transmits data – allowing the easy transfer of content without interruption*3.

Providing excellent all-round image quality and excelling in low light, the PowerShot S95 offers an extensive feature set designed to deliver outstanding performance. Built for those who want the perfect combination of portability, power and control, it’s the ultimate pocket-camera for the even the most advanced photographer.

Panasonic Lumix DMC-LX5

Panasonic has officially unveiled the DMC-LX5, successor to the popular LX3. The latest model features a revised sensor, longer zoom range and improved control layout without fundamentally changing the existing model's formula. It offers a more flexible 24-90mm equivalent lens with a bright F2.0-3.3 maximum aperture range and a comparatively large 10MP sensor in a small body. The body itself is barely changed compared to the LX3 - gaining an improved hand grip, clickable control dial, direct movie record button and a 1:1 position on the aspect ratio slider. Most significantly it gains a connector to add the DMW-LVF1 electronic viewfinder originally launched with the GF1. Other than this, the LX5 gains the AVCHD Lite format for its 720p video, and its image stabilization is branded with the company's latest 'Power O.I.S' designation. It will be available from the end of August for a suggested retail price of $499.95. We've had a chance to use an LX5 for a bit, so have prepared some notes on our first impressions.

Jump to:

The 1/1.63" (~0.45cm²) sensor itself has been redesigned and an additional layer of condensing microlenses added to offer increased sensitivity and saturation figures, resulting in an improvement in dynamic range. The user interface has also been revised, with a GF1-style clickable control wheel replacing the LX3's joystick, making it easier to change settings. Most significantly the lens range has been extended to offer a more flexible 24-90mm equivalent range while retaining a bright F2.0-3.3 maximum aperture range (it also matches the LX3's lens brightness over the shared focal length range).

We were invited to the pre-launch event for the LX5 and were able to spend over a day shooting with the camera. The units were pre-production to allow last-minute changes if any issues became apparent, but already felt very finished. First impressions are that Panasonic has gently revised the camera - improving the grip and applying the handling lessons they've learned from the GF1. As before the external aspect ratio switch encourages use of this feature (along with the knowledge that the pixel count won't be excessively reduced by doing so). Movie mode has been tweaked, now offering manual control of shutter speed and aperture, along with the ability to zoom during movie creation.

It's the addition of the click wheel and theGF1-style handling that was most striking or, more accurately, wasn't - I spent around twelve hours shooting with the LX5 without particularly noticing the user interface. The loss of the joystick meant I found the 'quick menu' slightly less quick to use but this was more than made up for by the ability to change aperture or exposure compensation without shifting my hands out of the shooting position. Based on what I know of the LX3 and what I've seen of the LX5, it will be a difficult camera to get near, when a production example becomes available.

We've also published a gallery of images from the experience. All are taken with a pre-production camera so may not represent final image quality. Click here to view.

Press Release: Stockholm, Sweden (July 7, 2010) – Panasonic, is proud to announce a long-awaited DMC-LX5 - a successor to the DMC-LX3, acclaimed worldwide especially by the photography enthusiasts, after two years of silence. Since the birth of DMC-LX3, the new category is established in the compact camera market, which is called premium compact cameras that features high picture quality and creative descriptiveness. The new DMC-LX5 is fully re-designed in the lens, the CCD and the image processing engine together with other improvements and upgrades.

The newly developed super bright F2.0 ultra wide angle 24mm*1 LEICA DC VARIO-SUMMICRON lens minimizes distortion for stunning, true-to-life images with outstanding resolution and detail. The 24mm of wide angle offers extraordinarily large viewing space and now the optical zoom is extended to 3.8x (90mm) making the LX5 even more versatile.

The highly acclaimed 10.1-megapixel CCD in the LX3 has been redesigned to achieve the expansion of dynamic range by increasing the sensitivity and the saturation. The Venus Engine FHD is also redesigned for advanced signal processing in both photo and movie recording. The high sensitivity made possible by the new sensor and the superior signal processing by the new imaging engine especially elevates the picture quality in low light situations.

For the movie recording, the DMC-LX5 is newly compatible with long time high quality HD movie recording in AVCHD Lite in addition to the conventional motion JPEG format. A host of creative options including Creative Movie mode, My Color mode and Film mode are available for more extended expression not only in photography but also in videography.

The external design is also improved to pursue high operability - the thickened grip for easier hold, the newly incorporated turn-and-push jog dial achieves various selection and setting more quickly. The hot shoe allows attachment of advanced accessories such as optional Live View Finder which helps shooting under strong daylight with high visibility. The 1:1 square format setting is added in the aspect ratio option which can be selected with the switch at the side of the lens barrel.

The 3.0-inch large 460,000-dot high resolution Intelligent LCD is also redesigned by adopting High CRI (Color Rendering Index) backlight LED to greatly increase the color reproduction offering remarkable visibility both in shooting and playing back images in any conditions from at dark night to under dazzling sunlight. Despite the high performance and the maintained size of the camera body, the battery life is extended to shoot 400 pictures (CIPA) per a single charge.

As a pocket camera of professionals and high amateurs, or an advanced camera of step-up users, the DMC-LX5 promises none-the-like picture quality and creativity backed up by crystallization of Panasonic’s state-of-the-art optical and digital technologies. Leading the expressive possibility of compact cameras to even higher dimension, the DMC-LX5 starts its history that will surely be passed into legend.

F2.0 Super Bright 24mm Ultra-Wide-Angle*1 High Quality LEICA DC VARIO-SUMMICRON Lens with Minimum Distortion
The DMC-LX5 is equipped with newly developed F2.0 24mm ultra-wide-angle LEICA DC VARIO-SUMMICRON lens with even higher resolution. The super bright, high quality lens is redesigned for extension of the optical zoom from LX3’s 2.5x(60mm) to 3.8x(90mm) to be even more versatile for snapshots including portraits. The F2.0 lens is about twice as bright as the F2.8 lens, itself generally considered a bright lens. The result is higher shutter speed can be used to capture stunningly clear, sharp, blur-free images in lower lighting situation. This advanced lens also makes it easy to produce beautiful photos with pleasing soft-focused background thanks to the shallow depth of field provided by the extra light.

Also, the 24mm ultra-wide-angle lens - rare on a compact camera - gives photographers a wider range of composition possibilities. The super-high-quality LEICA DC VARIO- SUMMICRON lens minimizes distortion at the wide end, so users can get stunning, true-to-life images with outstanding resolution and detail. The LX5 captures approx. 213% larger viewing space compared to that normal 35mm camera does, and even approx. 136% larger compared to that 28mm wide-angle lens can do.

The lens unit consists of 10 elements in 9 groups with 3 aspherical lenses with 5 aspherical surfaces. Minimal distortion, high resolution, minimum artifacts such as chromatic aberrations, ghosting and flaring are the proof of uncompromising imaging made possible by F2.0 24mm ultra wide angle LEICA DC VARIO-SUMMICRON lens.

Thanks to the newly incorporated Intelligent Resolution technology, the Intelligent Zoom is available with the LX5 which extends the zoom ratio by approx. 1.3x maintaining the picture quality even combining a digital zoom. This means the 3.8x optical can virtually extend to 5x equivalent. Furthermore, the Extra Optical Zoom function that extends zoom power to 6.7x (at 3-megapixel resolution) by using the center part of the large CCD to bring subjects even closer.

In addition, the iris diaphragm allows the users to adjust aperture at fine steps manually. Newly Designed 1/1.63-inch 10.1-megapixel High Sensitivity CCD with Wider Dynamic Range
The predecessor DMC-LX3 played a big role to cease the pixel count war by adopting 1/1.63-inch CCD for 10.1-megapixel recording to realize the unprecedented picture quality with a compact digital camera and even to establish a new premium compact camera category in the market. The CCD in the LX3 which was highly acclaimed from the specialists worldwide is redesigned to achieve the further expansion of dynamic range by increasing the sensitivity by approx. 31% and the saturation by approx. 38%*2. It is made possible by the improvement of on-tip-lens design with larger light concentration and VCCD expansion while deepening the photo diode to manage richer signal more effectively.

The result is a high resolution, noise-less pictures even in high sensitivity recording and richly reproduced gradation in highly contrasted situations with the exquisitely wide dynamic range. Taking advantage of the high sensitivity CCD and the brightness of the lens, minimum illumination of DMC-LX5 is as low as 3 lux in movie recording.

Normally, to produce an image of 3:2 or 16:9 aspect ratio, 4:3 picture will be cropped, so the picture does not have the maximum advantage of these extraordinary recording aspect. However, the CCD in DMC-LX5 can reproduce images shot with the lens set from 24mm to 90mm in any of three aspect ratios; 4:3, 3:2 or 16:9, so you can always capture dynamic, richly expressive shots with a wide perspective. The Multi Aspect mode allows the camera to take an image in all three aspect ratios simultaneously for photographer to choose the one that best takes the advantage of the scene after shooting.

The New Venus Engine FHD Assures High Picture Quality for Both Photo and Movie
For the image processing LSI, newly developed Venus Engine FHD is equipped with the DMC-LX5 featuring even higher-speed, higher-performance while compiling the Intelligent Resolution technology. It enables the recording of beautiful photo and high-definition movie with higher quality signal processing. The triple CPUs in this imaging engine dramatically speed up processing while achieving exceptional noise reduction performance. The Venus Engine FHD's excellent energy efficiency supports long-time AVCHD Lite movie recording, and allows the output of both images and sounds via HDMI.

At the same time, the multi-task image-processing engine Venus Engine FHD supports a super-fast response time. The shutter release time lag is as short as approx. 0.007 second and the camera's quick response makes it easier to capture sudden, spur-of-the-moment photo opportunities together with the Sonic Speed AF (Auto Focus) that gains approx. 40% higher speed*3 and the quick startup time.

With the Intelligent Resolution technology, 3 areas — outlines, detailed texture areas and soft gradation areas are automatically detected. The outline parts are enhanced effectively to give edges more clearness while giving a moderate accentuation to the texture areas to look more finely detailed. To the soft gradation part, superior noise reduction system of the Venus Engine FHD is applied to make it smoother.

Apart from the uniform enhancement of sharpness, the innovative technology Intelligent Resolution precisely performs signal processing pixel by pixel in the most effective way for it. As a result, images are naturally clear and crisp in both photo and movie recording. The Intelligent Resolution technology also realizes the Intelligent Zoom, which virtually extends the optical zoom ratio to its approx. 1.3x equivalent maintaining the picture quality even combining the digital zoom. Details of an image in high sensitivity recording tend to be lost in the noise reduction process; however, the Intelligent Resolution works to keep them.

Despite the high performance, the Venus Engine FHD is superior in efficiency to extend the battery life of DMC-LX5 to 400 pictures (CIPA) per a single charge.

Save Memories in Movie - Start Enjoying Videography As You Enjoy Photography
In addition to Motion JPEG images, the DMC-LX5 can record high-definition motion picture in AVCHD Lite. It features almost doubling the recording time in HD quality compared with the conventional Motion JPEG format. The picture quality is greatly enhanced thanks to the newly added Intelligent Resolution technology. The LX5 also features Dolby Digital Creator to record high quality audio.

In movie recording, the DMC-LX5 goes further than simply recording HD movies. Apart from the movie recording capability of conventional digital compact cameras, the DMC-LX5 also features a Creative Movie mode, which lets the user set the shutter speed and aperture manually to make even more impressive movies. Changing the shutter speed brings special effects to movies, which is especially suitable for shooting fast-moving subject. The ability to control the aperture is convenient when there are several subjects at different distances and it is desired to have each of them stand out. My Color mode, which will be detailed later, is also available in movie recording.

The optical zoom is available in movie recording, too. With the newly added Video Divide function, users can divide the video into two sections to shorten or delete the unwanted part on the spot in the camera. You can cut out a clear still image from a movie in the camera thanks to the Intelligent Resolution technology. A Wind Cut function is also available to block out most of the noise from background wind. The minimum illumination is as low as 3 lux thanks to the F2.0 super bright LEICA DC VARIO-SUMMICRON lens and the high sensitivity CCD.

The popular iA (Intelligent Auto) is also available in movie recording. The POWER O.I.S. (Optical Image Stabilizer), Face Detection, and Intelligent Scene Selector also support shooting beautiful movie with ease. The Intelligent Scene Selector automatically switches between Normal, Portrait, Macro, Scenery, and Low Light modes according to the situation to optimize visual quality. The Intelligent Exposure that also optimizes the exposure to prevent over/under exposure part from occurring.

Still or motion images recorded in AVCHD Lite on SD Memory Cards are easy to view on a Panasonic VIERA TV. Simply insert the card into the VIERA Image Viewer (SD Memory Card slot) on VIERA TV or DIGA Blu-ray Disc Player to playback your contents. Alternatively, you can use an optional mini HDMI cable to output the still and motion images you took from the LX5 directly to the TV for VIERA Link. You can take maximum advantage of LUMIX camera's playback functions including the slideshow in which both still and motion images are integrated in the timeline, category playback according to the scene mode you used or calendar display and so on. All control is possible using only the TV's remote control.

In addition, with the included software PHOTOfunSTUDIO 5.0 HD Edition, it is easy to view and edit your recorded contents. You may also choose to upload your videos to YouTube or burn them to a DVD disc for archiving. Motion images can be recorded continuously for up to 29min 59 sec in European PAL areasContinuous recording exceeding 2GB is not possible when recording motion JPEG. Remaining time for continuous recording is displayed on the screen. Use a card with SD Speed Class*4 with "Class 4" or higher when recording motion pictures in [AVCHD Lite]. Also, use a card with SD Speed Class with "Class 6" or higher when recording motion pictures in [MOTION JPEG].Enhanced Operability and Unlimited Possibility for Expression
Studying the feedback from the users of the predecessor DMC-LX3, the DMC-LX5 has been also redesigned externally to pursue its operability. Its size is almost the same but the new gently formed grip provides easier handling even in active shooting style. The hot shoe is newly added for attachment of the optional Live View Finder (DMW-LVF1), users can also choose the External Optical Viewfinder (DMW-VF1) according to their shooting style.

The newly adopted jog dial enhances the operability for quick setting change and the dedicated playback button lets the user play back the images and return to the shooting menu in split seconds. The aspect can be changed directly with the aspect switch on the lens barrel among 4:3, 3:2, 16:9 and the new 1:1.

In addition to the Film mode in which user can select the texture of the photo as you choose a film, My Color mode is newly added to DMC-LX5. My Color mode is a special option that gives free reign to the user's creativity. User can select the color out of 12 options including Expressive, Retro, Pure, Elegant, Monochrome, Dynamic Art, Silhouette, Pin Hole, Film Grain, High Dynamic, Dynamic B&W and Custom (the parameter of color / brightness / saturation adjustable).

This makes it easier and more fun to create interesting, expressive images. Sony Cyber-shot DSC-WX5

Sony has unveiled the Cyber-shot DSC-WX5, DSC-TX9 and DSC-T99 digital compacts. The WX5 and TX9 incorporate the company's latest 12.2MP, 1/2.3" Exmor R back illuminated CMOS sensor. Both feature a 'Superior Auto' mode that shoots bursts of between 2 and 6 shots then combines them either to reduced noise or boost dynamic range, depending on the scene you're shooting. The WX5 includes a wide angle 5x optical zoom lens starting at 24mm equivalent and a 2.8" LCD, while the TX9 comes with a 3.5" touchscreen LCD and a 25-100mm equivalent lens. Other features include a Background Defocus mode, 3D Sweep Panorama mode and 1080i Full AVCHD video recording. The DSC-T99 features the same lens and body design as the TX9, a smaller LCD and a 14MP CCD sensor that cannot achieve the fast multi-shot shooting required for Superior Auto mode. All three cameras offer a Soft Skin mode that tries to smooth out wrinkles and other blemishes from the subject's skin.

and 3D Sweep Panorama

12.2 megapixel Exmor R™ CMOS Sensor and new Superior Auto mode for superb images with DSLR-style low noise performance1080i Full HD movie recording for playback on your HD TV World’s first compact still cameras with 3D Sweep Panorama Sweep Multi Angle for exciting 3D-style viewing effectsBackground defocus mode for stunning professional effectsJuly 8, 2010: Experience a new dimension of photo excitement with this summer’s colourful additions to the Cyber-shot™ family of digital cameras from Sony.

Beautifully slim, light and easy to use, the Cyber-shot™ WX5 and TX9 boast exciting new features for outstanding still picture quality compared with conventional compact cameras. Capable of shooting detail-packed Full HD (1920 x 1080, 50i) AVCHD movie clips, they’re also the first Cyber-shot™ cameras from Sony that can capture amazing 3D images to enjoy on any 3D-compatible TV.Superior Auto mode: incredible low-noise images
The WX5 and TX9 are the first Cyber-shot™ cameras that can capture extremely low-noise images, evoking the expressive power of a digital SLR camera.

Powered by the 12.2 megapixel Exmor R™ CMOS Sensor, Superior Auto mode captures a high-speed burst of up to six frames when you press the shutter button. Camera settings are automatically optimised according to shooting conditions. Cyber-shot™ then combines information from each frame to create an exquisite, low-noise picture with wide dynamic range, as enjoyed by DSLR photo enthusiasts.

As an extra refinement, new Background Defocus makes it easy to achieve pro-style images, similar to the results achieved with a DSLR camera and wide-aperture lens. Cyber-shot™ rapidly shoots two frames when the shutter button is pressed. Position information between the foreground and background is analysed automatically, creating a single picture with your subject in sharp focus and a beautifully blurred background. New Soft Skin mode flatters portrait subjects even further, automatically removing small wrinkles and skin blemishes for effortlessly beautiful results. First-ever 3D Cyber-shot™ cameras
For the first time ever, 3D Sweep Panorama lets you shoot incredible 3D images without needing a bulky, complex double-lens camera system.

Just press the shutter button: the advanced Exmor R™ CMOS Sensor inside the Cyber-shot™ WX5 and TX9 captures a high-speed burst of frames as you sweep the camera from side to side. Information from up to 100 images is automatically combined to create a stereoscopic pair of frames. You can enjoy the incredible results by connecting the camera by HDMI to your 3D-compatible TV.

Cyber-shot™ offers even more exciting 3D image possibilities.  Also new this year, Sweep Multi Angle shoots a high-speed burst of fifteen frames, creating a ‘3D-style’ image of your subject that can be viewed from different angles. After shooting, just tilt the Cyber-shot™ from side to side: sensors inside the camera detect your movements, scrolling through the sequence of multi-angle frames as you tilt and view the camera’s LCD screen. Multi-angle views can also be viewed simultaneously on an ordinary 2D television as you tilt the camera.

You can also enjoy breath-taking panoramic shots with the Cyber-shot™ TX9 while you’re snorkelling or diving. Add an optional marine housing and select Underwater Sweep Panorama mode that optimises white balance for clear, natural results with underwater subjects. Cyber-shot™ T99 – more style, more colour
Also available this summer, the beautifully sculpted Cyber-shot™ T99 is guaranteed to turn heads with a choice of gorgeous new colour options. Inside its slim, curvaceously sculpted lines there’s plenty of smart technology – from Sweep Panorama and 720p HD movie recording to new Soft Skin mode. Like the Cyber-shot™ TX9, the T99 also features new Underwater Sweep Panorama mode for extra-wide sub-aqua scenes.

The beautiful, easy to use Cyber-shot™ WX5, TX9 and T99 digital cameras by Sony are available from mid-September 2010.
